• How long have you lived in Luton?
I have been living in Luton since 1996.
• Which ward do you represent?
I represent the Challney Ward.
• Do you sit on or chair any boards?
Currently, I am Chair of the Labour Group and also assisting the portfolio holder of Children Services. I am a member of the Overview and Scrutiny Board and Vice Chair of Administration and Regulation Committee. In the past, I have served as a Chairman of Area Board West and was a vice chair of the development Control Committee. I was part of Infant Mortality and Domestic Violence task and finish groups set by OSB and was also privileged to be elected as Deputy Mayor of Luton Borough from 2014-2015.
• Why did you become a councillor?
I became a councillor because I wanted to represent my local community and have a part in the decisions which affect them.
• What do you love about Luton?
I love Luton because it is a multicultural town. Furthermore, we have London Luton Airport which is one of the fastest growing airports in UK and in few years it will create thousands of jobs for the local community and Luton will become a business hub for neighbours. I'm confident that Luton is thriving and has a lot of potential. We have the Luton and Dunstable Busway, Inspire Luton Sports Village and a developing University.
• What issues are you most passionate about in your role as councillor?
Unemployment, education, housing and health are the issues people are more concerned by, social justice for all is my dream and I intend to create equal opportunities for all on a basis of equality.
