• How long have you lived in Luton?
I have lived in Luton since 1984 moving here due to changes in employment.
• Which ward do you represent?
I was elected to represent the Lewsey Ward in 1991 and have been a councillor there ever since.
• What portfolio do you represent? Do you sit on or chair any boards?
I am currently Leader of the council but have also been Deputy Leader, Chair of Leisure and Chair of Equalities.
• Why did you become a councillor?
I became a councillor so that I could represent people and advocate on their behalf. I’m particularly interested in helping the most vulnerable in the ward and improving things in general for all the local community.
• What do you love about Luton?
I love the diversity and exciting activities that happen in Luton. It is never boring and working with all the communities that live here is rewarding. I love the way people tend to get along together.
• What issues are you most passionate about in your role as councillor?
I am particularly interested in improving housing opportunities for the Luton community, which is really challenging at the moment. I also am passionate about improving public health; it’s really important as poor health is often one of the causes of poverty and is so important to peoples general well-being.
